1. Nutrition (Nutrición). Living things obtain nutrients from
food

LIVING THINGS
CLASSIFICATION. They are classified into three kingdoms. (se
clasifican en tres reinos)
PLANT
KINGDOM
(plantas)
|
ANIMAL KINGDOM
(reino

|
FUNGI KINGDOM
(hongos)
|
They can´t move around
(No se

They make their own
food (Fabrican
su propia comida
|
They can move around
(Se pueden mover)
They eat other living
things (Se
alimentan de otros seres vivos)
|
They can´t move around
They don´t make their
own food, they eat the remains of living things or grow or feed on things
that are still living (No
se mueven ni fabrican su comida, comen restos de otros seres vivos o crecen y
se alimentan de otros seres aún vivos)
|
Grasses (hierbas).
Grasses are the shortest (son los más bajos)
Bushes (arbustos).
Bushes are shorter than trees (son más bajos que los árboles)
Trees (árboles). Trees
are taller than bushes.
|
Vertebrates.
(vertebrados)
Invertebrates
(invertebrados)
|
Mushrooms (setas)
Yeast (levadura)
Mould (moho)
Tree living fungus (hongos de los
árboles)
|
All living
things are made of CELLS. Cells are so small that we need a microscope to see
them.(los seres vivos están hechos de células, tan pequeñas que necesitamos
microscopios para verlas)
ANIMAL KINGDOM. INVERTEBRATES. They don't have a backbone (no
tienen columna vertebral)
They
are classified into 6 groups
|
CHARACTERISTICS
|
MOLLUSCS
(moluscos)
Examples: snail (caracol)
Octopus (pulpo)
|
·
They
have a soft muscular body
protected by a shell.(cuerpo blando y
musculoso protegido por una concha)
·
Most
of them live in the sea, but some
can live on land.(la mayoría vive en
el mar, pero también pueden vivir en tierra)
|
JELLYFISH
(medusas)
|
·
They
live in the sea (viven en el mar)
·
They
have soft body (umbrella) and tentacles
|
SPONGES
(esponjas)
|
·
They
live in the sea
·
They
have soft body covered with little holes
to take in oxygen and food (están cubiertos de pequeños agujeros para captar la
comida y el oxígeno)
|
ECHINODERMS
(equinodermos)
Examples: Starfish (estrella de mar)
|
They live in the sea
They protect from
predators by hard skin or spikes.
|
ANNELIDS
(anélidos)
Example: earthworm
(lombríz de tierra)
|
·Some of them live in the sea, but they can live on land(viven en el mar,
pero pueden vivir en tierra)
·
They
have long soft body divided into segments (cuerpo largo y blando dividido en
segmentos)
|
ARTHROPODS
(artrópodos)
Examples: Spider
(araña)
|
· They live in water, on land, in the
air and underground (viven
en el agua, en tierra, en air y bajo tierra)
· It is the biggest group are the
insects.
·
(el
grupo más numeroso son los insectos)
·
They
have a head, a thorax and an abdomen, jointed legs and a protective
exoskeleton
(tienen cabeza, tóraz y abdomen y exoesqueleto protector)
|
ANIMAL KINGDOM. VETEBRATES . They have a backbone
Vertebrates are
classified into: (se
clasifican en :)
|
They carry out
different functions (realizan
diferentes funciones)
|
·
Mammals
·
Reptiles
·
Amphibians
·
Birds
·
Fish
|
· RESPIRATION. All animals need oxygen to live (todos necesitan
aire para vivir)
§ MAMMALS, REPTILES AND BIRDS breathe
with LUNGS (mamíferos,
reptiles y pájaros respiran con pulmones)
§ FISH use GILLS to get oxygen from
the air. (los
peces usan bránqueas para respirar en el agua)
·
REPRODUCTION (reproducción). They are:
§
Viviparous.
They are born from their mother (nacen de su madre ). Mammals
§
Oviparous.
They lay eggs to reproduce (nacen de huevos).
BIRDS AND REPTILE
·
NUTRITION (nutrición) They can be
§
Omnivores.
They eat plants and other animals (comen plantas y otros animales)
§ Carnivores. They eat other animals (comen otros
animales)
§ Herbivores. They eat plants (comen plantas)
|
FOOD CHAINS
(cadena alimenticia)
PRODUCER. Plants make their own food from
nutrientes made by decomposers (las plantas se alimentan de nutrientes de
descompuesto)
|
CONSUMER.
HERBIVORES. Herbivores eat plants
(los herbivoros se comen las plantas)
|
DECOMPOSER. Bacteria and fungi take the
carnivores' remains and turn them into nutrients.(las bacterias y los hongos
transforman los restos de los otros
animales para fabricar comida
|
CONSUMER. CARNIVORES.
They eat other animals
(se comen a los otros animales)
|
THE PLANT KINGDOM . (plantas)
How do plant reproduce?
(¿cómo se reproducen las plantas)
SEXUAL REPRODUCTION. Pollination. The pollen goes
from the stamen to the pistil.(el polen va desde el
estamen al pistilo)
Fertilization. The pollen joins
an ovule to make a seed (el polen se une
a un óvulo para crear la semilla)
Germination. The fruit falls to the ground and the seed grows into a new plant
(la
semilla cae al suelo y crece la nueva planta)
ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION. No
flowers or fertilization. It takes place from the same plant (sin flores ni
fertilización, tiene lugar desde la misma planta)
PLANTS AND ANIMALS LIVING TOGETHER
(plantas y animales
viven juntos)
Living
things of the same SPECIES live in the same POPULATION
(seres
vivos de la misma especie forman una población)
All
the different POPULATION living together are a COMMUNITY
(diferentes
poblaciones unidas forman una comunidad)
The
place they live is called HABITAT (el lugar donde viven se llama habitat), the amount
light, water the temperature and soil in a place (la cantidad de luz, agua, temperatura
y suelo de un área)
HABITAT
and ITS COMMUNITY make up an ECOSYSTEM (el hábitat y su comunidad forman un
ecosistema)
